Kestrachern

On my first trip to San Francisco after Burning Man 2005 (and my second trip overall) I went skydiving in Santa Rosa with Aerin and Murry.

My jump master was a crazy german guy that went by the name of Torsten. With over 16,500 jumps I felt fairly secure being strapped to his chest as we fall earthward.

Arriving at the airport I was a little dismayed/concerned for the surroundings… I kept looking for a three legged dog to run past, but alas one never did Still there was a great atmosphere about the place….

After a 1/2 hour jump school, which consisted of putting on the flight suit and ummm well that’s really all I remember, we boarded the plane and began our two mile ascent. As the plane neared the jump altitude Aerin left first —– byyyyyeee Aerin
The the plane continued to circle and climb for my turn. I was getting a few butterflies at this point. Torsten gave me the last minute instructions and then I was standing, feet on the landing gear, outside of the plane. Crossing my arms Torsten jumped us both.

All I wanted for the first few seconds was back in the airplane. SERIOUSLY.

The 30s it took to drop nearly two miles was amazing. Loved it loved it… the only bad part was since I had recently flown out to California I was having some sinus problems and about 1/2 down WHAM! headache. ouch ouch ouch. Regardless it was a great time watching the ground rush up at you..

Torsten then opened the parachute and we drifted downward… spiraling ever more horizontally Torsten called out “Who’s Your Daddy?” I and I came back with “Torsten, You’re my daddy!!!!”

After landing and getting out of the gear, Aerin, Murry , and I headed off to Iron Horse Vineyards to enjoy some champagne! A great way to relax after the jump.
