Office Decor

My first ever art opening was my office at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.   I had been wanting to do something with my office (it having been promoted from closet to lab space to office).   Returning from Burning Man 2005 I went with more of an instinct.   I knew I wanted bright colours and varying textures.  On the walls overlaid with drywall I applied plaster.  Where applied = flung handfuls, smeared gobs and generally un flattened the surface.  With the exception of the ceiling tiles and the tile floor and the furniture I repainted everything.   Atop the painted cinderblock I affixed some fossils (from my days as a geologist) with the last remaining plaster.

The next few steps were easy:
- buy food and drinks
-send out invitations to the opening

I was pleased at the turn out, nearly a dozen people stopped past including the chair of the chemistry department.  He was always a hard man to read.

When my decision to move to San Francisco finalized I was faced with the painful act of restoring the office to a very near semblance of its form when I took possession.  A belt sander from Wal-Mart to re-flatten the walls (and spew dust throughout the entire first floor of the building, despite my sealing the door while working) and about 4 cans of pigmented primers did the job.

Creativity and creation simply because.
