kaZantip
Loosely related to other gatherings like Burning Man, Creamfields, & LoveParade, kaZantip is a five week week long electronic music festival in the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine.
I learned about kaZantip from an email list, someone had posted a video from a year or two ago. It looks like a fun time… and one of those adventures that you simply have to do rather than try and learn too much about beforehand. The only difficulty I foresee is getting the appropriate visa to travel to Ukraine.. that and the money to travel.
kaZantip began around 1992 as a surfer party that grew to what is billed as the largest electronic music event in the world. DJ’s come from all over and no specific lineup is created. Rumor is that DJ’s can play as long as they keep the crowd vibe, lose that conenction with the crowd an you are asked to step back from the decks, regardless of your “World ranking”. That is my idea of how a party should be run. kaZantip is “set-up” as it were its own citystate. with constitution, preZident, and viZas (tickets), but is open only during the months of July and August. Costumes and party dress are prevalent in the photos, as are yellow suitcases and polka dotted garments. It does not seem as participatory as Burning Man but the lengths of stays possible should compare for development of a temporary community.
I like the sound of the event and would like to go sometime in the next few years. Time to put more away into the travel budget….
schastie :-)
