What makes a good DJ Name? Is it the sound, a constant repetition(great promotion), or amazing associated logo?
Who is your favorite DJ and what do you think about their name?
If you are a DJ how did you come up with your name? Was it given by another, come out of a moment’s inspiration, or describe part of yourself?
Part of this year’s goal of Production is for me to play and produce music. For that I’d like to use something other than my parental given name.
Maybe I can tie this into my rediscovery myself as a Reverend.

Mix Master Matthew, use that. Then you could shorten it to 3M. It’ll be great – groupies will send you rolls of tape! To answer your specific questions, I have no idea. To me, it’s always felt that the name doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the music – I’d follow someone named quetzcoatl (never really rolled off the tongue), or for that matter hitler if he or she could bring it.
Naming a favorite? I couldn’t really say – so many good choices out there. Some have cool names, many have dorky names, they all seem to suit them well enough. I don’t really have a DJ name as it were, it’s just a name I’ve been using for, wow, 11 years now. I’m sure you’ve heard the story before.
Great goal, I can’t recommend getting as into music as you can highly enough. If 3M doesn’t suit you, don’t worry it’ll come to you
Thanks for the thoughts… definitely trying to avoid the quetzcoatl direction for a name.
I find I am impressed with Deadmau5 as a name and the imagery that he can conjure up.
It is the thing that the name does fit the DJ… so that’ll be the challenge for me.. picking something to grow into or something more descriptive….
3M might work or at least enough to get me going…!!!
The ‘reverend’ honorific is a good start. Be reverent.
You could also shorten your ‘kestrachern’ moniker. DJ Kestra? Sounds avian:)
Keep at it! Perchance you’ll find your new avatar when you least expect..
