Burning Man 2005
The upcoming fire art show started me remembering about my firs trip to Burning Man and the impressions it made on me.
I was living in Ohio at the time and remember buying my tickets on a cold January afternoon.. refresh, refresh, refresh, yay TICKETS! Then I was fairly quiet for the coming months until getting into contact with my friend Heather. She had moved to Reno and was looking to return back to the playa this year. We struck a deal where she would let me ship gear to her place and also offer me transport too/from the event.
Leaving Ohio I wore my new Workman Kilt and it helped me meet my first Burners!!! So many people on the plane and also at the Reno Airport asked me to stop past their camp. I made playa promises that I would do my best to find them. Our tents were pitched with the Passion Pigs, a non registered theme camp. After setting up the tents we scattered!!!! It was Sunday night and BRC was still mostly empty.. and I don’t even remember looking for the line of cars that surely was there. I roamed about the circle streets before returning back to my tent and crashing.
I did not see much of my camp mates as I was out exploring most of the time. Dancing chatting and some photography. I took many more photos in the earlier part of the week and as I became more involved lost awareness of the camera.
I remember seeing fire everywhere…. fire performers, burn barrels, flame thrower, Dance Dance Immolation… you name it there was fire attached to it.
I met many new people at Burning Man and it was suggested I fly out for Decompression a month away. I was all about that. I was getting ready to move to Toronto but was game for exploring San Francisco too. But that tale need wait for another time.
Returning back to Ohio after the event I decided to paint my office. Guess I had better dig up those photos too. I was filled with a very creative spirit that I hope will burn even brighter with the present move to Florida.

Hey There, Your webpage just popped up on my google alerts for ‘Angel of the Apocalypse’ (which I helped make), however your picture is not of the Angel but of the Synapses, which were just a little ways away from the Angel.

Ooops… Thanks for the correction and photo link, Mills. Being my first year things kinda blended together. I’ve updated the names and also added my photo of the Angel under construction.
Also thanks to you and all member of FLG for the inspiring pieces you create each year!
