Bike Accident

Bike Accident

In February I was riding my bike in St. Petersburg and was hit by this guy. Thhhbbbt!

At the time of the accident he was on his phone and the first thing I heard him say was “Uhh I think I hit some guy on a bike and I’ll call you back” He did not get out of his car until the Fire/Paramedics and Police arrived.

I did learn about the Florida accident policy. Florida is a “no-fault” state. That means from my perspective that regardless of the cause of the accident that the parties are responsible for the repairs to their own vehicles up to the tune of $10,000. What incentive does a person have to drive safely or defensively if they are not going to be held liable for damages? From the manner of driving around here.. none. It is a scary place to operate a vehicle, car or bike.

My favorite experience so far was a woman that did a bad 3 point turn in the middle of the street. Stopping abruptly and nearly causing me (on a bike) and the car behind me to run into her vehicle.

As for my accident…. I am feeling better now and the driver of the vehicle that struck me was consistent in looking out for his own best interests. At least he paid for replacing my smooshed front tire.

:-)

there was residual soreness for about a month in my wrists an along my right side. It was quite an education on the legal system and behavior of lawyers (the profession of the man who hit me) here in FL
